TOP 10 HEALTHY FOODS IN OUR KITCHEN THAT WORK AS CONVENTIONAL ANTIBIOTICS
Many people use antibiotics on a regular basis without knowing that there are other replacements and healthier ways in helping with the flu or with more serious health problems. Some of the food we have in our kitchen can be very healthy and helpful but not many people are informed about the benefits from it. From honey and ginger, to green tea and horseradish, we made this list of top 10 foods that can be used instead of antibiotics. Some of these foods are easy to find and very cheap and almost every family uses them so it would be a shame not to know about their wonderful benefits.

1. Honey

Honey
While everybody has it at home, not many know what it can really do. Honey can be an effective cough suppressant and it can really improve sleep. The thick syrup coats and soothes the back of the throat, while the sweet taste causes salivation, which reduces the urge to cough. Honey’s antioxidants may even help the body fend off nasty cold bugs, thereby alleviating cold symptoms.  However, due to the risk of infant botulism, a rare but serious form of food poisoning, never give honey to a child younger than age 1. Since honey is low-cost andwidely available, it might be worth a try.

2. CabbageCabbage

Cabbage has been used for centuries as a food and a medicine. For example, the Ancient Greeks would routinely prescribe cabbage or cabbage juice to treat constipation or mushroom poisoning, while the Ancient Egyptians consumed cabbage before meals to lower the intoxicating effects of wine. The British even brought cabbage to the trenches of World War I since its leaves helped to treat trench foot and bandage ulcers. Cabbage heads could contribute as sources of important antioxidant and anti-inflammatory related to the prevention of chronic diseases associated to oxidative stress, such as in cancer and coronary artery disease.

3. Apple Cider VinegarApple Cider Vinegar

For centuries, people have used vinegar as a folk remedy to treat various ailments. Even today, some people believe that vinegar has healing properties that include relieving pain associated with arthritis, aiding digestionand treating infections. If a bacterial infection is at the root of your diarrhea, apple cider vinegar could help contain the problem, thanks to its antibiotic properties. What’s more, some folk remedy experts contend that apple cider vinegar contains pectin, which can help soothe intestinal spasms. Try mixing one or two tablespoons into water, or clear juice like apple juice.

4. OnionsOnions

Onions have amazing antibacterial and antiseptic properties. They say that a raw onion placed next to a sick person could suck the sickness right out of them. The onion is rich in sulfur compounds and acid, and is one of the best natural remedies to combat infectious processes in the respiratory tract. Used internally it can be a good disinfectant.  Juicing onions and adding two to three teaspoons of honey to the juice is a way to maximize their beneficial potential. This juice, taken for a period of about three weeks, will reduce the length and severity of a cold, the flu or other virus. A good buying tip is that the smellier and stronger the onion, the more potent itshealing properties are.

There is no doubt that garlic is one of the best natural antibacterial and antiviral medicine. Although not many people like the taste, garlic is very helpful and healthy. It contains more than 20 components with antiviral properties and nearly 40 antibacterial components. This makes it great for internal treatment of the respiratory tract. It’s also very useful for disinfection of wounds.  A 2012 study by the Washington State University states that a compound from garlic is 100 times more effective than popular antibiotics used in the treatment of intestinal infections caused by the bacterium species Campylobacter bacterium.

It has also been traditionally used in India for cosmetic purposes, for clearing up blemishes as well as giving a natural glow and radiance to the skin.

7. GingerGinger

Did you know that ginger can work as an antibiotic? It is reputed to be effective against Escherichia coli and Salmonella, both of which are food-borne bacteria that can cause significant illness in people. It has even been shown to treat and cure ulcers. Ginger can be made into a tea using the fresh root or the dried and ground root. The fresh root is inexpensive, and a decoction can easily be made by gently simmering ginger slices in water and drinking the result, sweetened with raw honey. You can also eat candied ginger to help treat ulcers and fight infection.

Green tea is a popular drink, especially in Asian countries, although its popularity continues to spread across the globe. Horseradish has been shown in laboratory tests to be antibiotic, active against a variety of bacteria, so this can benefit a sinus infection. It has a high sulphur content, which may contribute to its antibiotic properties.
